Change Firewall Settings manually

On each XP SP 2 workstation you need to remotely access, go to the Control Panel, display “Windows Firewall”, go to the Exceptions tab and do the following:


Enable the File and printer sharing exception.
For extra security, if your administration console (computer on which RemoteExec is installed) has a static IP, you can specify it as source. To do this, edit the File and printer sharing exception, click on Change Scope, select Custom list and enter the IP address.


For Windows Vista workstations you should also allow the ICMP protocol in the “Windows firewall with advanced security” console available in administration tools. In Inbound rules, enable the “Networking – Echo request” rule for the domain profile.
Add a port exception with RPC as name, 135 as port and with TCP selected. If possible, restrict the source to IP as explained above.


Add an application exception with %SystemRoot%\system32\RemoteExecAgent.exe as path. If you are not allowed to do this because the file is not available download the reg file at the following link and execute it: http://www.isdecisions.com/download/AllowRemoteExec.zip You should then be able to access the workstation using RemoteExec.

Changing Regional and Language Settings in Windows XP

1. Select Control Panel from your Start menu.
2. Select Regional and Language Options in the Control Panel.
3. Select the Languages tab.
4. Select the Details button.
5. Select the Add button.
6. Select your preferred language from the Input language pull-down menu.
7. Select OK to close this window after selecting your new input language.
8. You should now see your new language choice in the list of installed services.
9. Select Language Bar to set options for the Language Bar’s behavior.
10. Check Show Language bar on the desktop to access your language keyboards in Windows programs.
11. Select OK repeatedly in the various windows until you have closed all Regional and Language setting windows.
    

Setting Windows XP to Update Automatically

Setting Windows XP to update automatically :

1. Right-click on My Computer and select Properties
2. Select the Automatic Updates tab
3. Make sure there IS a check in the box next to “Keep My Computer up date”
4. Select the “Automatically download the updates…”
5. Set the updates to run Everyday
6. We recommend setting a time when you know your computer won’t be in use (I.E. - when you’re in class, or asleep)
